Torrijas!

Guess what I did......

Okay, time is up. I got to get into the kitchen and help make desert. It is the first time I've prepared any Spanish food and in Spain on top of that. Needless to say, I was/am still elated. My tapas class also starts tomorrow to add sugar (hint hint) to the sweeten things up. The dish is called torrijas and they are very popular in Spain during the Semana Santa aka Holy Week. The history goes all the way back to the 15th century when the torrijas were eaten during the period of Lent when Catholics didn't eat meat. These sweet treats acted as a supplement, being full of robust flavor and sweetness. For all you golosos como yo, they are perfect. Essentially, it's bread that has lost its suppleness in which that coat with milk, in the Spanish version, dip in egg batter, fry in oil, toss in cinnamon and sugar, and lastly drizzle with honey. Watch your intake but at the same time don't be annoying about it. "Eat the hotdog and the bun!!" - Tyra haha. Picture time!
