Keep the steam out of your ears..

Writer's picture: undefined

I think we too often fall victim to the rage monster. That little thing chooses to ride on us whenever it gets the opportunity. It's our job to see past our fault to despise and to create a better co-existence for everybody by resolving our anger in ways that prevent emotional outbursts and physical altercations. This is what I do:

1. Assess the situation

Too often I see people getting angry with people like bill collectors, cashiers, receptionists, etc. Someone gets a call or walks into a store and drops every curse word and vitriol that they ever learned at someone who was just working trying to make a dollar and trying to sustain themselves. This is clear evidence of someone who reacted without assessing the situation. You have to be willing to look at the difficulty from all sides of the table. More often than not the drama and confusion is out of the control and power of the worker or most people getting the heat for a super high bill or a computer issue. Also think about how you feel when you go to work and how it feels whenever somebody (including your boss) thinks you may have done something wrong when everything else says otherwise.

2. Let's get physical!

I believe that stress builds toxins and chemicals in the body and that it's important to get those out. Not only can you take out those frustrations kickboxing or running from the Hell that pursues you but that sweat will be the literal exorcism of the anger and the frustration you may be battling with.

3. Find some humor

Sometimes it's hard to find humor in the situation at the moment but later you know you will be able to look back and laugh about it (i.e. that terrible incident in Poland). I'm not sure if I'm laughing yet but I would presume that I'm close. In the event that you can't laugh at the situation you can always find another source of funny. Some of my go to's are Ellen and Damn you autocorrect. These tips also work for sadness too.

What I really want you to take from this is that we have to be responsible for the energy that we bring into the lives of others. Stop perpetuating negativity throughout the day because you have the power and the capability to change your thoughts and you can think yourself into a more positive space. Think about it, at least by the end you can say you added a couple years to your life.

Relax peeps.
