Hey y'all
I've taken the liberty of combining two of the 21st's most consistently popular themes. You want to know what I'm picking up from the grocer and market AND what I think is on TOP and what's NOT. I'm here to deliver.
Here's what's been in my cart:
Fruits:
I utilize this group often as a snacking group. I literally eat a banana at least once a day because in me lives a little hungry monkey, probably a capuchin. You have to be careful with fruit as to not overload yourself with sugar though. This can be very difficult once you add in all the fruit juices. By fruit juices, I mean the 100% ones. We won’t even talk about the other messes.
OBSESSED
Apples – I never really appreciated apples until I took the time to try a bunch of different varieties like honeycrisp, fuji my current favorite, and pink lady.
OPPRESSED
Naked Drinks and “Fake Juices” – nobody needs that excessive sugar
Veggies:
This takes up the largest portion of my cart currently. It’s been a new transition that I’m proud of. It’s where you should really invest your time in finding what is really great and learning how to cook it in a way that provides you with a bounty of flavor because we know veggies have a reputation for be bland and flavorless. I’m keeping leafy greens around like kale and spinach and adding in my favorite of all, the sweet potato. Oh, and tons and tons of beans! I’m in love with the process of starting from a dry bean and there are so many benefits to adding them in that it’s a no brainer for me.
OBSESSED
Edamame – I avoided these like the plague up until about a month ago. I’m glad I broke out of whatever fear that was.
OPPRESSED
People that don’t eat vegetables – Are you serious right now? Just stop it. You’ve probably had some poorly cooked (most likely overcooked) vegetables that were lacking in texture or flavor. I’m here to tell you that there is a right way and a wrong way to eat vegetables but no one else will ever tell you that.
Protein:
All I can say is tons and tons and tons of it. I get most of my protein from dairy. I don’t eat much red meat and I like to get the best fish of that day so I don’t have any featured here. But, there are these natural chickens that I happen to love for two reasons. I only like the chicken that has “retained water” in the label. This will be in very fine print and at the bottom, front of the packaging. Sometimes it will say “a certain % of a solution”. I don’t go for those. Buying chickens whole is also a thing I picked up from living in Spain. You want to be able to assess the overall health of the bird. We don’t want a chicken with toothpick wings and breasts like Pamela Anderson. We want a proportionate bird. Proportionate = healthy, non-steroidal, happy chicken.
OBSESSED A few things –
GNC Amp brand whey protein
Smucker’s natural peanut butter – ingredient list peanuts
Fage full fat Greek yogurt
OPPRESSED
Fat free and no fat eating – I’m over it.
Grains:
Everyone recommends that you get the most of this food group and it’s possible to do it the right way. One rule I use is that when I want bread or pasta; I have to make it myself. Both of those which are made from flour, from wheat, which is a grain should be respected! It’s the additives and preservatives in our grains that are making our bodies sick. Go natural.
OBSESSED
Quinoa – I’m so in love. Correction Donald Trump, Mexicans not only bring great music, culture, and sexy people they bring great grains! I love the diversity of the grain and the texture is similar to couscous AND you can eat it hot or cold. That is a win.
OPPRESSED
Oatmeal – Nothing is actually wrong with oatmeal but I’m over it being the star of the grain. I don’t like and thought I could never catch up with my grain game if I don’t eat it. There is a plethora of other grain avenues to be explored people.
Controversy:
I’m entering in the realm of happy chickens, happy eggs. I never thought it necessary before because I don’t eat eggs themselves but I use them in my cooking. I’m testing to see how these new cage free eggs alter my food’s results.
I’m a butter fighter. For a couple decades, butter has gotten such a terrible rep. It’s honestly incomparable gastronomically and fat doesn’t make you fat.
All of this is great but I’ve seen many people get overwhelmed. That’s when I came up with the idea to do the work for you. Thus, personalized meal plans, the embodiment book, was born. It works in 3 phases each lasting 30 days in order to get you on track to the goals you’ve always wanted to embody for your health:
Phase 1: Balancing the diet so that you get full nutrition and can reset the body inside out.
Phase 2: Zoning in on the foods that are most beneficial to you in particular and excluding those that benefit you least and affect you in the worst ways.
Phase 3: Focusing on your macronutrients to finally get you to the goals that you’ve set for yourself.
I’ve already heard great things and YOU could be next.
p.s. If you live in the general area of Rock Hill, SC ask me about food prep.
